Kris McEwan (born 1974 in Irvine, Scotland) is a multi-instrumentalist specializing in guitar playing working out of Seattle, WA. He has shared stages with luminaries such as Bert Jansch, Keith Urban, Buddy Miller and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
McEwan was raised in the Orkney Islands off the north coast of Scotland where he was exposed to authentic traditional Scottish folk music in addition to the rich harmonies of Scottish religious music. After receiving an amazing early education in fiddle playing he found his father’s guitar in the loft and that was that. With the introduction to 70’s Eric Clapton and some timely Mark Knopfler the fiddle took a temporary back seat.
While living in Glasgow attending Strathclyde University McEwan toured extensively through Europe including shows at several notable UK venues (Glasgow Royal Concert Hall for the world famous Celtic Connections festival, The Barrowlands, Brixton Academy and many more).
Upon relocating to Nashville in 2004 he completed several US tours for upcoming artists and played regularly at major venues throughout the city – 12th & Porter and 3rd & Lindsley to name just two. Since moving statestide McEwan has played for artists such as Kristi Neumann, Dylan Jakobsen, Chris Blair and many more, Treading the boards at such music festivals as Taste of Country in NY and WInstock in MI.
Now in Seattle and recently joining up with Ockham’s Razor, McEwan comes full circle back to celtic infused rock music, bringing years of experience and practice to the studio and the stage. Recently completing a double album recorded in part at Seattle’s Studio Litho (owned by Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam) and produced by Don Gunn, McEwan has never played better and has never been more inspired and passionate about playing guitar than he is today.
2021 saw the release of Ockham’s Razor’s “Secrets & Silence” double album, a ~28 track “Celtic Rock Opera”, described by Irish Music Magazine as a "riveting and majestic parade of musical genius."
McEwan primarily plays Gretsch guitars and Vox amps.
